Ak-Sar-Ben’s River City Roundup Summer Internship Opportunity        

    Ak-Sar-Ben’s River City Roundup (ARCR) a program of the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation, has a  marketing/advertising/public relations internship opportunity for the 2010 summer. ARCR, held annually in September, includes a variety of events and features the Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Exposition, Ak-Sar-Ben PRCA Rodeo and Douglas County Fair.
    Job Responsibilities: event promotion & marketing, grassroots marketing, press release writing, committee relations, media kit productions, event coordination, ticket sales, volunteer coordination, advertising sales, computer design
    Prerequisites: self-motivation, consistent, colorful, & quality writing skills organized, dedication, eye for detail, willing to make cold calls, take-charge attitude, good phone skills, enthusiastic, InDesign, Excel and Word computer skills, ability to take a project from beginning to end, ability to meet deadlines
    This paid internship runs from May through August for out-of-town students. Local students are encouraged to work full time from May through August and part-time through the festival and graduates are encouraged to work full-time from May through the festival in September. All interns are asked to return for the week long event in September. Application deadline is March 1, 2010.

Study Abroad Grants        

    Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Forty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.
   
Who is eligible to apply?
* you have a minimum of 30 semester hours (or equivalent) and no more than 90 semester hours (or equivalent) by the deadline of February 24, 2010, excluding all AP, credit by exam, etc. Students attending a school on the quarter system must contact their Registrar’s office to determine the number of earned semester hours;
* you have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They do NOT roundup - meaning a 3.46  GPA does not qualify;
* you have at least two semesters left at your home institution after the completion of your study abroad program;
* your study abroad program begins between May 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011;

When is the deadline?
    The completed application and supporting materials must arrive at the Society Headquarters on or before February 24, 2010 at 11:59 CT. Materials arriving after the deadline will not be considered.

Jenkins Accepting Applications for Summer 2010 Internships        

     Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins is accepting applications for congressional internships in her Washington, D.C. , Topeka and Pittsburg offices for the summer 2010 term. Applications for the summer are due by March 1 st , 2010.
     To apply for an internship, students should submit a completed application form, personal statement, resume, and two letters of recommendation. The personal statement should outline internship goals. DC internships are broken into two six-week sessions and Kansas internships can be a bit more flexible – both full and part time possibilities.

Purpan - France Summer Study Program        

     The Ecole Superieure D’Agriculture - Purpan offers an 8 week summer program with specialized study on either European Agriculture or Viticulture/Oenology. This successful exchange program combines both an on-campus and an internship experiences.
    The program started in 1995 is ideal for freshmen and sophomores. Courses are taught in English and English will be spoken during the internship experience. In the European agriculture tract, the four-week, on-campus program includes courses on French language and culture, agricultural economics, policy making in France and in the European Union, animal production, plant production, and food processing and distribution. A farm stay/internship experience following the on-campus program will enhance students’ understanding of both French agriculture and French culture.
    In the viticulture and oenology tract, the four week on-campus program includes courses on French language and culture, viticulture ecology, viticulture and vineyard management, oenology and vitification, “Autour du vin” – cooperage, cork industry and bottling. During the four-week field study/internship, the student will live with a family involved with a vineyard/winery operation. What a great country in which to study viticulture and oenology.
    The on campus portion of the program runs from May 31st to July 23rd. The program includes field trips and weekend cultural tours including a weekend at the beach. Students successfully completing the eight week experience will earn *twelve hours *of KSU credit.

K-State Scholarship Deadline        

    The official deadline for applying for scholarships is February 1, 2010.
    All College of Agriculture and Department scholarships require students complete the K-State Scholarship Application. This applies to all current students, including those students on renewable scholarships, who plan to be enrolled in Fall 2010. No students will be considered for scholarships that do not complete the application! Applications completed after the February 1 deadline will not be considered.

Tuesday, February 23 - Oral Presentations and Quiz Bowl rounds
Thursday, February 25 - Held at the Alumni Center; Final Quiz Bowl Game, followed by catered meal, Final Oral Presentations and recognition of event winners

     On-line registration will end at midnight on January 31st. On-line registration is now available at the ASI homepage (www.asi.ksu.edu). There is a mandatory orientation meeting is Tuesday, February 9th at Call Hall 205, 5:30 p.m.
    Each participant will receive a long sleeve tee shirt! Winning team members from each of the four events will receive $50 book store gift certificates! Overall winners receive custom belt buckles crafted by Max Lang Buckles, Houston, Texas (display buckle in lounge area outside Weber Hall 123)! Enjoy a Coco Bolo’s catered meal at the KSU Alumni Center on the finals night.
    Assemble teams of people with diverse expertise and abilities (e.g. someone with experience with meats who has also had repro; someone who had A&P, but knows sheep and showed rabbits in 4-H). If you participated in previous years, put together a team for 2010; the experience will be an asset.
    The 2010 ASI Academic Quadrathlon winning team will represent K-State at the Midwest AQ contest, Des Moines, IA, March 15-17, 2010.
