K-State Research and Extension Intern Program        

    During the summer the K-State Research and Extension intern program will provide students with an overview of professional employment as an Extension agent.
    Working under the supervision of an Extension agent, the intern will assist in the development and implementation of research-based educational programming. Depending on the needs of the county or district and the academic preparation of the intern, the programming will be in one or more of the following areas:
    - 4-H Youth Development
    - Family and Consumer Sciences
    - Agriculture and Natural Resources
    - Community Development
    Application Deadline: To assure review, letter of application, resume, and transcripts must be received no later than February 1, 2010.

K-State Hero Award        

Do you know a great, inspirational student leader on campus?

    K-State Hero awards were introduced upon completion of the K-State PROUD Student campaign, and serve to honor and recognize the students who work hard every day to make K-State the place it is. Five $500 awards will be given this fall to students who have shown their commitment to making K-State better through their leadership and service.

Horticulture Faculty Member Receives National Award        

    Dr. Kim Williams recently received the North Central Region Award for Excellence in College and University Teaching in the Food and Agricultural Sciences from the Higher Education Programs of the USDA.
    Williams is a professor of floriculture production and plant nutrition at K-State. She teaches the courses greenhouse management and floral crops production, and co-teaches pre-internship in horticulture and plant nutrient management.

Name: Becky Sullivan
Major: Agriculture Communications
Hometown: Paola, KS

Most significant college experience: Having the opportunity to give back to fellow students and helping in any capacity. Sullivan has enjoyed broadening her friendships, teaching a leadership studies class, and having the opportunity to be a friend and role model to younger students. Sullivan is driven by having the ability to give back to others in the way that her mentors invested in her. The people at K-State are Sullivan’s biggest focus and she contributes interactions with many to have an impact upon her life.

December Student of the Month        

Name: Anna Pesta
Major: Animal Sciences and Industry
Nominated by: Alpha Zeta Hometown: Oakboro, North Carolina
Most significant college experience: Pesta has been very involved with the judging teams here at K-State. She was on the 2007 World Horse Judging Team, 2008 Meats Judging Team and is currently on the 2009 Livestock Judging Team. She is also very involved in Sigma Alpha where she enjoys the leadership positions she holds.

Name: Dr. Dan Moser
Department: Animal Sciences and Industry

Most rewarding experience: The interactions that he has with advisees and other students. Dr. Moser always enjoys the arrival of new freshman and transfer students, as they each bring a new perspective and new enthusiasm to campus. He feels that it’s most rewarding to see his advisees through to graduation and is proud of the successes of many of his former students.
Greatest contribution to the students at K-State: The effort to covey the principles of genetics and animal breeding in an engaging and interactive way to captivate his audience. Dr. Moser’s use of real world examples effectively illustrates the concepts in a manner that is not confusing to a variety of students.

 

Name: Dr. David Grieger
Department: Animal Sciences and Industry
Nominated by: Collegiate Cattlewomen
Most rewarding experience: Dr. Grieger enjoys helping his students succeed and see how they progress from when they are freshman until they become seniors. It is especially rewarding to see former students become successful and to receive positive feedback from students who come back to visit after graduation.
Greatest contribution to the students at K-State
: The efforts that he puts into helping his students learn in the classroom and providing hands on lab classes to go with them. He also has developed videos to go along with some classes to help students better understand the concepts that he’s trying to portray to his students. With research, my lab has provided students with a place to learn some basic techniques that are building blocks for their future.
